Velocity of train A = va

Velocity of train B = vb

For trains moving in two parallel tracks , two cases are possible

Case 1

(When trains are moving in same direction )

Velocity of A wrt B (Vab) = (va-vb)

Velocity of B wrt A (Vba) = (vb-va)

Case 2

( When trains are moving in opposite directions )

Now since the directions of motion of both the trains are opposite too each other , hence we take one direction (say A) positive then the other becomes negative ie; B is negative then,

Velocity of A wrt B (Vab) = (va -(-vb))

= (va+vb)

Velocity of B wrt A (Vba) = (vb-(-va))

(vb+va)

Hope this helps
