Relative velocity is a difference in velocities of two objects where one is at rest with respect to another.

For example: Motion of aeroplane in wind and moving boat in water. It can be expressed as V = Vab + Vbc when two bodies are in same direction.

Here Vab is a velocity with respect to ‘’a’’ and ‘’b’’ and Vbc is a velocity with respect to ‘’b’’ and ‘’c’’.

If two objects are in opposite direction expression will be V = Vab – Vbc.
