Report writing is the creation of a structured document that precisely describes, and examines an event or occurrence. A report is a document that is short, sharp and specially written for a particular audience and purpose.

• A report is a factual description of an event that has already taken place. It can be an Account of an event or incident or an investigation or detailed analysis of an issue or a problem.

Writing a report depends upon two major consideration:

1. Who is going to read it ?
2. Why he/she is going to read it ?

The two general kinds of reports are :

1. Reports for newspaper.
2. Report for magazines.

Report about events, accidents, burglaries, matches, political events etc are often published in newspapers.

Reports of events like the Annual Day, the Sports Day, Annual play etc are published in school magazines.
