• In Direct Speech, we repeat the exact words spoken by someone with the quotation marks.
• In Indirect Speech, we do not use exactly the same words that someone has said. We don't use quotation marks in indirect speech, but we have to make changes to the pronoun and tense in the Reported speech.
• The words of speech kept within the inverted commas are called the Reported speech.
• The words outside the inverted commas are called the Reporting verb.
• Example : He said to me, " You have written a letter to me. " Here He said to me is Reporting verb and You have written a letter to me is Reported speech.
