  • Reproduction is the biological process by which new individuals – 'offspring' are produced from their parents.
  • It is the fundamental feature which all continuation of organisms exist on the life of earth.

  • There are two forms of reproduction:
  1. Asexual Reproduction
  2. Sexual Reproduction
  • Reproduction is also known as breeding or procreation.

  • Asexual Repoduction is a process by which organisms create genetically similar or identical copies of themselves without the contribution of genetic material from another organism. Some of them which do this type of reproduction are:
  1. Bacteria divides asexually via binary fission.
  2. Virus takes control of host cells to produce more viruses.
  3. Hydras and Yeasts are able to reproduce by budding.
  4. Most plants are capable of vegetative reproduction , that is without seeds or spores.
  5. Bacteria exchange their genetic information by conjugation.
  6. 0ther types of asexual reproduction includes parthenogenesis, fragmentation and spore formation that involves only by mitosis.

  • Sexual Reproduction is a process that creates a new organism by combining the two genetic materials of both Male and Female gametes. These process starts with meiosis , a specialized type of cell division.
  • Each of two parent organisms contributes half of the offspring's genetic makeup by creating haploid gametes.
  • Most organisms form two different types of gametes. They are 1) Anisogamous species and 2) isogamous species.
  • A few types of organisms such as many fungi, have more than two sexes called syngens.
