After 12 to 14 days of menstruation, an ovum is released from the ovary. This process of releasing an ovum from the ovary is called ovulation. The egg usually remains in the tube for 2 - 3 days. The foetus now travels to the wall of the uterus and attaches itself. The wall of the uterus now thickens and enhances the blood supply in preparation for the foetus or embryo. The growing foetus draws its nutrition and nourishment from the mother through the placenta through the umbilical cord. cervix or the ring of the muscles at the lower end of the uterus widens for the birth of the baby. The umbilical cord is cut after the baby is born.

Hope this helps...

In the reproductive process, a male sperm and a female egg provide the information required to produce another human being. Conception occurs when these cells join as the egg is fertilized. Pregnancy begins once the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. The embryo grows and becomes surrounded by structures that provide support and nourishment. Eyes, limbs, and organs appear as the embryo develops into a fetus. The fetus grows inside the uterus until pregnancy ends with labor and birth. By then all body systems are in place—including the reproductive system that can one day help produce another human being.

1. Fertilization: A Sperm and an Egg Form a Zygote
2. The Zygote Becomes an Embryo: Development Prior to and During Implantation
3. In Eight Weeks, the Embryo Develops; By the End of Week 10 It Becomes a Fetus
4. Fetal Development Ends with Labor, a Three-Stage Process
5. Humans Must Develop Male or Female Gonads and Genitalia to be Capable of Reproduction
