Answer:

Abolition of caste system is a herculean yet a necessary task Indian citizens and government need to do as soon as possible. Most usual answers you are going get will say that caste based reservations should be removed to remove caste system but it is as illogical as it gets because you can't treat just one of its symptoms to cure the real disease. But the problem with Indian population is it willingly remains oblivious to the real disease. They think only reservation is the only ill effect of it because they have to suffer because of it. People need to become less selfish and think about the other bad effects of this disease. The real disease, i.e. the caste system, still pretty much governs the lives of most of Indians. Still there is segregation among different castes and in plenty of regions there still is discrimination as well. To find an answer to WHEN the Caste System will be Removed from INDIA, we should first try to find out HOW can Caste system be removed. The answer lies in the reformation of Hinduism. Caste system originated from Hinduism and it gradually spread to all other religious communities in India like an epidemic. No matter how strongly Hindus believe that Hinduism is the most noble and liberal religion of the entire world they can not and should not shy away from the fact that there are many flaws in Hinduism. The only reason caste system has weaken over the decades is that most Hindus no longer live their lives according to the rules and regulations of Smiritis and Shashtras but still there is need to permanently remove such rules and regulations from the religious books of Hinduism. Even the mention of caste system must not be there. No excuses should be given to justify this system.

Second thing that needs to be done is that caste based surnames should not be allowed. This might sound unimportant and unnecessary but it is both important as well as necessary. You can not remove the caste system when people are still aware of their castes.

Another important role that caste plays is that in matrimony. Caste should not be one of the criteria in getting married. Trying to find out someone's caste should be criminalized just like finding the sex of unborn child is.

After there won't be any existence of caste in our society, caste based reservation won't be required either and removing caste based reservation will be the last nail in the coffin of caste system.

But this is easier said than done. Majority of people in India are stuck to their castes. Not just illiterate and villagers but well educated and urban population are also believers in caste system. Sadly even our country's youth has been infected by this. And this does not only apply to the upper castes but even the lower caste people who have got so much pain and discrimination from caste system are also slaves of this system. Seeing the present scenario I think it is going to take at least 2-3 generations to abolish caste system from India.
