Force of friction or frictional force comes into play when a body is having motion or the body is resting on a rough surface or ground.

When the body is in rest or having the tendency to move, then it is having static friction.

And when the body is in motion, kinetic friction may oppose or may support the motion depending on the conditions.

The direction of frictional force opposes the applied force on the object.

At least two objects must interact for a force to come into play. Thus, an interaction of one object with another object results in a force between the two objects and no physical contact is necessary.

Hope it helps
