Answer:

Respiration is a molecular process of combustion of Glucose present in an organism to produce energy, that is required by an organism to work.

The Glucose(6 carbon molecule) is broken into pyruvate(3 carbon molecule) in the cytoplasm of a cell.

  • The Respiration may be aerobic or anaerobic.

  1. Anaerobic: Glucose combusts in presence of excess oxygen to form carbon dioxide, water and high amount of energy. It takes place in Mitochondria.

  1. Anaerobic: Glucose combusts either in lack of oxygen to give lactic acid or in absence of oxygen to give ethanol and carbon dioxide.
