DEFINITION: Respiration is a metabolic life process involving the oxidation of glucose to form energy units in the form of ATP and liberate water vapour, Carbon dioxide and heat.

In all the organisms whether plant, animal or human, respiration involves taking in oxygen because without oxygen, oxidation is impossible.

Respiration is one of the metabolic processes that are common in all living organisms. Breathing is a physical process as we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.This exchange of gas is necessary for respiration.
