Respiration in simple words in inhalation of oxygen and exhalation of Carbon dioxide. In short it is a process of breathing.

But scientifically Respiration is the process by which the large molecules are broken down to smaller molecules ATP that releases energy to the body.

Since it's a breaking process it's catabolic.

Cellular respiration is a catabolic process.

Respiration is the process in which sugar is converted into biochemical energy using oxygen or without the use of oxygen.

There are three types of respiration. They are:-

1. Anaerobic Respiration
It is done without the use of oxygen.
The byproducts are energy, carbon dioxide and alcohol.

2. Aerobic Respiration
It is done by the use of oxygen.
The biproducts are energy, oxygen and glucose.

3. Anaerobic Respiration
It is done on the absence of oxygen.
The biproducts are lactic acid and energy.
