Yellow color is imparted to the candle ( diffusion flame ) by incomplete combustion of fuel, mostly release of soot particles (unburned hydrocarbon fuel). ... The incomplete combustion of wax produces small unburnt carbon particles which rise in the flame, get heated and glow to give out yellow and luminous flame.
