If acceleration is in the opposite direction of velocity, then it is considered as negative and called as retardation.
Its SI unit is m/s².
For example:- When we slowly apply brakes in a vehicle, then the velocity of vehicle is slowly decreasing, due to this, the acceleration of vehicle becomes negative and this is called retardation.
