The resistance of audible sound after the source has ceased to emit sound is called the reverberation.

when sound is produced in hall or an auditorium , sound wave suffer multiple reflection from the walls, ceiling and other materials present in the hall. The intensity of the sound here is the combined effect of direct waves and reflected waves. Due to this, the sound produced for sometime even after the source has stopped producing sound. This is caused by reverberation.
