Rheostat is a devise used in a circuit it is used as a variable resistor whose resistance can be increased or decreased by our will
by providing resistance in a way it controls the flow of current.

Hope it helps!!

Rheostate is a variable resistance ... It is used to control the flow of electric current in the circuit...

we know the factors on which resistance depend..
=> Nature of material
=> Area of cross section
=> Length of a conductor
=> Temperature

Resistance depend on a length of a conductor.
It is directly proportion to the length of the conductor
which means more is the length , greater the resistance is and vice versa...

This means we can increases or decreases the resistance just by changing the length...

Recall a regulator of a Fan , which we use to increase or decreases the speed of a fan...In a regulator we have a wire in Coils ( circular shape ) . By making we can make more length of a wire....when we rotate a regulator to increases the speed of a fan , we simply decrease the length of the wire fitted inside the regulator...

As the length decreases , Resistance also decreases which results in increases the current in the circuit as we know by ohms law , I = V / R

Similarly , when we rotate the regulator again for decreasing the speed of a fan...we simply increase the length of a wire in a coil...Due to which Resistance in the circuit increses , again by onhms law Current in the circuit decrease...so fan rotate slowly....

This Rheostate is a variable resistor which is used to regulate the current in the circuit...
It is also used to control voltage in a circuit...
