Ribosomes are small non membranous organelles present both in eukaryotes and prokaryotes. The ribosomes present is eukaryotes is both 70S and 80S while in prokaryotes is only 70S.

Now coming to its functions:

It is the protein synthesizing organelle.

During translation, the messenger RNA provides information to the ribosomes, generally attached to the endoplasmic reticulum, thus forming rough endoplasmic reticulum, to form the required protein and ribosomes do the same.
