The river pattern is also termed as drainage system of the river that naturally forms due to the topography of the lands.

There are various types of drainage systems, among which Dendritic, Trellis, Radial and Parallel drainage systems are most prominent.

Dendritic pattern resembles a branched tree while the river flows over a land with uniform rocks.

Trellis pattern is rectangular in shape and forms over the land having alternate layers of hard and soft rocks.

Radial pattern forms when the river jumps from a high position to different directions like the spokes of a wheel.

Parallel pattern forms when multiple streams flow parallel to each other.
