Heya!!!!

Roasting :-is a process which is used to extract the medium reactivity series of metal.

it is used to extract the sulphide ore.

roasting take place in presence of oxygen.

in the process of roasting metal arc vertige into metal oxide.

2) calcination is a process to extract the carbonate ore

calcination is used to extract the middle or medium reactivity metal for example zinc and lead.

calcination take place in absence of oxygen.

in this process metal are in the form of metal oxide.

hopes it helps!!!!!!!!!!

thanks

                     → Calcination  and Roasting ←

⇒Definition of Calcination : The process of heating carbon ore in the absence of air is known as calcination.

⇒Definition of Roasting : The process of heating sulphide ore in the presence of air is known as roasting.

⇒Extra Information :      The concentrated ore is first calcined and then roast in the excess of air. The following changes take place :-

(a) Water and carbon dioxide are expelled.

(b) Impurities of sulphur and arsenic are removed as volatile oxides.

(c) Ferrous oxide is oxidised to Fe₂O₃.

           → 4 Fe O  +    O₂   ⇒   2 Fe₂O₃

(d) The oxide ore becomes porous.
