Roasting : It is the process of converting an ores to oxide by strongly heating it in the presence of excess of air . For example sulphide ores are converted into their respective oxide by heating in the presence of air.
eg : 2 ZnS +3O --------> 2 ZnO + 2SO .
Calcination : It is the process of converting an ores to oxide by strongly heating it in limited air . For example carbonate ores are converted into the oxide by heating in the absence of air.
eg : ZnCO -----> ZnO + CO2

Hope this help you

Calcination is also a pyrochemical process in which ore is heated in the absence of air.The is decomposed in this process calcination is to be distinguished from roasting, in which more complex gas solid reactions take place between the furnace atmosphere
