A machine is a device that can repeatedly make pre-designed motions in order to help produce the desired result or outcome. A robot, on the other hand, is an intelligent device that is able to do much more than a machine.

Answer:

A robot is a machine—especially one programmable by a computer— capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically.

Machines can precisely repeat predetermined motions. Robots can do that too, but they can do even more. Robots can be programmed (given instructions) to perform many tasks. So, even when the task they have to do changes, we do not have to change the robot.
