It again acts as the first electron carrier intermediate in the photosystem. After P680 becomes excited to P680*, it transfers an electron to pheophytin, which converts the molecule into a negatively charged radical.

pheophytin,is a molecule similar to chlorophyll that also has a strong reducing potential and quickly transfers electrons to the next acceptor.

Phaeophytin a: a gray-brown pigment. Phaeophytin b: a yellow-brown pigment. Chlorophyll a: a blue-green pigment. Chlorophyll b: a yellow-green pigment.

it's main role is the electron carrier.

thanks..

hope it helps you
