A stereotype is a mistaken idea or belief many people have about a thing or group that is based upon how they look on the outside, which may be untrue or only partly true. Stereotyping people is a type of prejudice because what is on the outside is a small part of who a person is.

Role stereotyping refers to the process of re-enforcing some specific role for the different gender group in the Society. For example, - men and women are socialised in stereotypical role, where men are expected to be bread winner and women as a home maker. These roles are fixed and unchanging and the people internalised these social role through the process of socialisation and learn how to carry them.
