Any material used to reduce friction in this way is a lubricant. Much less force is required to roll an object than to slide or drag it. Unlike the coefficient of sliding friction, the coefficient of rolling friction varies with the rolling conditions. Rolling friction is very small compared with sliding friction.

Replace sliding friction with rolling element friction, such as with the use of rolling element bearings.
