When an object (2 dimensional or 3-dimensional) is rotated about an axis, if its shape remains the same as earlier, then the object is rotationally symmetric about that axis.
A circle (ring or disc) is rotated about an axis passing through its center and perpendicular to the circle. Its shape always remains the same.
A sphere is rotated, then its shape remains the same.
A square is rotated by 90 deg or 180 deg or 270 deg. then its shape and position remains identical to the earlier one.
In rotational symmetry , the axis of rotation and the angle of rotation are important.
