As a result, the people were covered from all sides and fire was opened up. Hundreds of people were killed. This infuriated many Indian leaders. Rabindranath Tagore gave up his renowned title. This was the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre.
Soon Rowlatt Act was passed which allowed the British to arrest any person found criticizing the government without any trial.
