Heya friend,

Here we go :-

Rowlatt Act was an act which was hurriedly passed by the colonial forces through the Imperial Legislative Council despite the united opposition by the Indian members.

It gave enormous power to repress political activities, and allowed detention of political prisoners without trial for two years.

1) Gandhi saw this as an golden opportunity to organise the non-violent Civil - Disobedience Movement.

2) Rallies were organized, workers went on strike and shops were closed down.

3) To oppose the people from disrupting the communication lines, British administration decided to clamp down the nationalists.

4) Local leaders were picketed from Amristar and Mahatma Gandhi was stopped from entering Delhi.

5) This even gave to rise to the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Amritsar, Punjab.

Thanks,

Manav
