Rutherford theory of atoms :- On the basis of his experiment to the first put forward the nuclear model of an atom which have the following features -

  • there is a positively charged centre in an atom called the nucleus .

  • the electron revolve around the nucleus in circular path

  • the size of nucleus is very small as compared to the size of atom

Observations of Rutherford theory :-

  • most of the fast moving \alpha particle passed straight through the gold foil .

  • some of the \alpha particles were deflected by the foil by small angles

→ know more :-

There are three radiations are :-

  • \alpha - these are positively charged radiations

  • \beta - these are negatively charged radiations

  • \gamma - these are neutral radiations
