Answer:

It said that there is a nucleus in the centre which is dense and hard.

Electrons, Protons and Neutrons are the subatomic particles of an atom.

Limitations

  • He failed electromagnetic theory of physics by saying that electrons revolve around nucleus and radiate energy.

Rutherford's Experiment

From the experiment Rutherford's made the following observations.

  • Most of the alpha particles (about 99%) passed through the gold foil undeflected.

  • Some of the particles were deflected by small angles.

  • A very few particles ( 1 out of 20,000 particles suffered major deflection by more than 90° and even come back in the same direction.

Conclusion from the observations:

  • Most of the alpha particles passed through the atoms of gold foil undeflected. It means that they didn't come across any obstacle in their path, the most of the space inside the atom is expected to be empty were electrons are found.

  • As a few alpha particles are suffered major deflection and the very few even major deflection, it means that they must have come across some obstacles in their path were nucleus is found that is very hard and rigid.
