The ryotwari system, instituted in some parts of British India, was one of the two main systems used to collect revenues from the cultivators of agricultural land. The Ryotwari system of extracting land revenue was introduced by Thomas Munro as a replacement of the Zamindari System , also known as the Permanent settlement.
