Saliva role in digestion of food

The role of saliva in digestion is explained below, saliva helps in moistening the food and forms a substance called as bolus. The saliva contains amylase enzyme that helps in breaking down complex food substances into simple organic substances. The "amylase breaks down starch" into "maltose and dextrin" that flows down the alimentary passage for further digestion and absorption to take place "
