esterifiaction reaction:ester are most commonly formed of an acid and an alcohol. ethanoic acid reacts with absolute ethanol in the presence of an acid catalyst to give an ester.
saponification reaction:ester are sweet smelling substances. these are used in making perfumes and flavouring agents . ester reacts in the presence of an acid or a base to give back the alcohol and carboxylic acid. this reaction is known as saponification because it is used in the preparation of soap

when acid reacts with alcohol to form ester, the sweet smelling compound is called esterification.
when ester is hydrolysed ,the parent alcohol and carboxylic acid can be obtained back in reaction. If this reaction is carried out in the presence of a base,it is called saponification.
