saponification is the process of preperation of soap usually from fats and lye.technically saponification involves a base which is sodium hydroxide-NaOH commonly known as caustic soda and hydrolysis of triglycerides which are esters of fatty acids to form sodium salt of carboxylate and in addition to soap glyceral is also formed in this process.''saponifiable substances'' are those which can be converted into soap.
