When an ester reacts with sodium hydroxide to form sodium salt of acid and alcohol , the reaction is called saponification .
Eg. : CH3COOC2H5 + NaOH ==>CH3COONa + C2H5OH
Eg. : CH3COOC2H5 + NaOH ==>CH3COONa + C2H5OH
