SAS i.e Subordinate Accounts Service exam, anyone can give this exam, be it MTS or LDC or auditor etc and then they will be promoted to the post of AAO i.e a gazetted post.

From 2016 onwards a new post has been added in the ssc cgl i.e AAO, so if you directly get qualified for AAO post then also you will be required to write SAS exam and if you could not clear the exam then you will be demoted to the auditor post at the mercy of the department or you can even be fired.
