Satyagraha literally means an appeal for truth. Gandhiji used the method of non-violent struggle against the colonialist powers and termed it as Satyagraha.

Gandhiji experimented his novel idea of Satyagraha initially in three places :-
Champaran in Bihar
Kheda in Gujurat
Ahmedabad in Gujurat

1. Champaran Struggle (1916) :- The British planters forced the peasants to cultivate idigo on their land for which the peasants were not ready. So there was a struggle between the British and the peasants. Here Gandhiji fought against the British and achieved victory in 1916.

2. Struggle in Kheda (1917) :- Due to drought and famine the peasants in Kheda could not pay the land revenue. But the British forcibly collected revenue by taking away cattle and household belongings. Against this Gandhiji started Satyagraha and was successful against the British Government.
