Scale is the relative term for distance on a map. it shows you how much distance on the map is approximately equal to the actual distance.
For example: It is written on a map --- 1 cm distance = 1,000 km, it means that if you measure one cm on the map using a scale, you will be measuring approximately a distance of 1,000 km.
It's just like you do while plotting a graph when you write down that 1 cm actually means 100 units of sale or 10 years of time or.....
Hope you like it!!! :)
