what is scale of probability
Answers
Maths uses numbers to describe probabilities. Probabilities can be written as fractions, decimals or percentages. You can also use a probability scale, starting at (impossible) and ending at (certain).
What is the scale of probability?
The conventional scale used in (real) probability theory is the inclusive real interval [0,1] . The point extremes of 0 and 1 indicate metaphysical impossibility and certitude respectively. Many will use percentages by multiplying the probability by 100. However, this is a misnomer as percentages are a measure of “coverage” with respect to a whole. The analogy is direct though. Frequentist probabilities in are the usual assignments to experiment ratios of success. However, the point nature of probabilities is still true in the more general setting of the axioms of generalized Bayesian probability (Cox’s extension thereof of Kolmogorovian probability).
