Shielding effect can be defined as a reduction in the effective nuclear charge on the electron cloud, due to a difference in the attraction forces of the electrons on the nucleus. It is also referred to as the screening effect (or) atomic shielding.

explanation - wen the electrons increase and the shell no.s also increases then the electrons gets less attraction towards the nucleus due to the electrons presents before it it forms a shield or a screen in between the other electrons and the nucleus
