Secularism actually means absence of state religion and no role of religion in the affairs of the State. It also means equality of all religions and freedom to practice and profess any religion.

India is a secular country. The constitution under article 15 declares all citizens as equal and there is no difference on the basis of religion. The constitution also declares freedom of religion as the fundamental right of people. India has not a particular religion as state religion and recognizes all religions as equal. Moreover under 42nd Amendment 1976, the word "Secular" was incorporated into the Preamble of the Constitution of India, which also made India a fully secular country.
