A secular state is a state which has no official religion of its own. And this ideology that religion should not be the basis of a society is secularism.

Indian constitution makes India a secular nation.

1. There is no official religion for the Indian state.

2. It provides all communities and individuals to follow and profess practice and propagate any religion.

3. It prohibits discrimination on religious grounds

4. The constitution has given State the powers to intervene in the matters of religion so as to ensure equality within and outside a community.

It also means equality of all religions and freedom to practice and profess any religion. India is a secular country. ... Moreover under 42nd Amendment 1976, the word "Secular" wasincorporated into the Preamble of theConstitution of India, which also made India a fully secular country
