Sedimentation:

The process by which insoluble solid particles of a liquid-solid mixture are allowed to settle down keeping the mixture undisturbed is called sedimentation.

Decantation:

The process of taking out the clear liquid over the sediment after sedimentation is called decantation.

  • Dirts like Mud and Mud cannot be seprated by hands sometime. You Have been sometimes dal and Rice soaked in water and the dirt often dissolves in water or collects at the top while cereal grains sink down. Sinking down of Heavier Conponent in water is called Sedimentation.
  1. Dissolved and suspended impurities containg water is removed by tilting the utensil. And such Process of removing the impurities by this method is Called Decantation. For Cleaming of dirty water this process is used. Sandy water is filled in a container and left undisturbed. The heavier particles of sand are sedimented. The Clean water from top is decanted. Thus this process is used to seprate immiscible liquids.
