Seed dispersal is the process of movement and spread of seeds away from its parent plant.

Explanation:

  • Since plants have no mobility, they rely on the dispersal factors to transport its propagules. Seeds of a parent plant can either be dispersed individually or collectively.
  • The pattern of dispersal is determined by the mechanism in which the seeds are dispersed, which contributes majorly to the genetic structure of the plant. It also determines the migration pattern.
  • There are 5 main modes by which a seed of a plant is dispersed: gravity, wind, water and by animals.
