Seismic focus is defined as the specific geographical region based around which the earthquake has originated.

Explanation:

  • Focus can be broadly defined as the specific location that starts the earthquake.
  • Epicentre is the region directly above the focus of the earthquake. When the ground starts rupturing around the focus, the seismic action and waves start radiating in different directions leading to the occurrence of the earthquake.
  • When the focus lies on the earth’s surface or crusts the resultant earthquakes are known as the earthquakes around shallow focuses.
