Seismogram➙ The records (paper copy or computer image) used to calculate the location & magnitude of an earthquake.

Seismometer➙ An instrument that measures motion of the ground caused by An Earthquake & Volcanic Eruption.

❖ It is a record of the ground motion at a measuring station as a function of time.

❖ It is record produced by a seismograph on a display screen or paper printout.

❖ It typically record motions in three cartesian axes x, y & z.

❖ The first seismograph was invented by the Chinese Astronomer & mathematician Chang Heng.

❖ It records with the z axis perpendicular to the Earth's surface & the x- and y- axes parallel to the surface.
