Self-inductance of a coil is defined as the phenomenon due to which an emf is induced in a coil when the magnetic flux of coil , linked with the coil changes or current in coil changes . Its S.I. unit is Henry(H) .

The quality of a current-carrying coil that opposes the change in current passing through it is called self-inductance. By Faraday's law, e = - L d I d t . Where e is emf, L is inductance and I is current. The unit of inductance is Henry.
