semiconservative replication means that when a DNA strand replicates itself, the new DNA strand will have one strand from the parental DNA and the other strand is newly synthesized, ie. 50% of the newly synthesized DNA molecule is similar to the parental molecule and the remaining 50% is new or not similar with the parental molecule.
