Types of Sentence :-

1. Assertive or Declarative Sentences:-

A sentence that express a fact, an event, a condition etc., in a positive or negative manner is called an assertive or declarative sentence .

An assertive sentence conveys a positive or negative meaning. So, it is of two kinds :

A. Affirmative or Positive Sentence :-

An affirmative sentence conveys positive idea or thought, that is to say, it affirm's some action or fact; for example :

(a) The policeman rushed to save the boy.

(b) It is Sunday today .

(c) Ishita is very good at Mathematics.

B. Negative Sentence :-

A negative sentence is used to negate a statement, fact, condition or action. Generally, no, not, never, etc., are used in the kind of sentence; for example

(a) Good children never disobey their teacher.

(b) Our players could not play well.

(c) This is not good.

2. Interrogative Sentence :-

An interrogative sentence ask a question or make some query.

We also classify interrogative sentences into two kinds.

A. Yes/No Type Questions :-

Such as - Did you reach home in time?

Ans. Yes, I did.

B. Question Word Questions :-

Such as - Why did you buy a mobile phone?

Ans. Because I like it.

3. Imperative Sentences :-

An imperative sentence express a command, request, entreaty, advice, propose or suggestion; for example:

(a) Stand up.

(b) Please let me go.

(c) Never abuse others.

4. Exclamatory Sentences :-

This kind of sentences are used to express from sudden feeling or emotion; for example:

(a) Hurrah ! We have won the cup.

(b) Bravo ! What a six.

(c) What a shame !

5. Optative Sentences :-

An optative sentence expresses a wish, prayer, boon or curse; for example:

(a) May you live long !

(b) May God help you !

(c) Would that I were a Prime Minister.
