Explanation:
Asexual reproduction:It is a primitive form of reproduction carried out by single entities through which one individual gives rise to multiple offspring without the involvement of another parent. Hence there is no event of mating in asexual reproduction. Thus gametes are not formed since the new individual contains genomes from only one parent. This is the reason why there is little to no variation as a result of asexual reproduction. Also, it is carried out a faster pace compared to the sexual mode of reproduction.
Asexual reproduction, in turn, is carried out through one of these modes:
- Spore formation
- Budding
- Fission
- Regeneration
- Fragmentation
- Vegetative propagation
Sexual reproduction:A more significant form of reproduction is the sexual mode of reproduction. It is a process which requires mating of the male and female sex cells to form the zygote as a result of the fertilization process. This cell in future matures to become the new individual. Most of the animals and plants reproduce sexually. As compared to asexual reproduction, sexual reproduction is complex and is a lengthy process since it involves two parents. This majorly contributes to the variation in offspring as the genome of the new individual contains a set of chromosomes from each parent.
This mode of reproduction occurs through multiple stages of division and growth, which are:
- The pre-fertilization stage
- Fertilization stage
- The post-fertilization stage

Among animals there are two types of Reproduction :
✪ In asexual reproduction, a single organism is capable of producing itscown kind , i.e. participation of two organisms is not required and the individuals produced are genetically identical.
✪ It does not involve formation or union of sec cells (gametes) .
✪ Usually more offspring are produced.
✪ It ensures rapid multiplication and is especially useful where an organism needs to colonise a localized area in a short time .
✪ It is mostly a characteristic feature of lowe organisms such as protozoans , sponges , ceolenterates , certain flatworms etc ...
✪ In Sexual reproduction , development of new individual takes place by the fusion of two sex cells , the male and female gametes .
✪ Genetic mixing takes place ; therefore more variation and great evolutionary potential.
✪ Fewer offspring are produced.
✪ Compared to asexual reproduction this is a slower process.
✪ It is a characteristic of higher animals including humans .
