Dispersion of splitting of white light into it's seven constituent colours is known as spectrum of light.

The constituent colour are

V -- violet

I -- indigo

B -- blue

G -- green

Y -- yellow

O -- orange

R -- red

Any light that disperses into these seven colours is referred to white light.

This was first observed by Sir Issac Newton.
