Sericulture, also called silk farming, is the process of making silk fibers. It starts by raising silkworms and then processing the fibers they produce.
The various steps involved are: (i) Rearing of silkworms: A female silk moth lays hundreds of eggs at a time. Step 2: Thread extraction. Step 3: Dyeing. Step 4: Spinning.
Silk thread is made up of fibroin protein secreted by the silkworm larvae.

• Silk fibre is a natural protein which is composed mainly of fibrin/ fibroin protein.
• It is secreted by silkworms in their larval developmental stage to form cocoons.
• It is one of the strongest natural fibres.
